Sir Luscious Left Foot aka Big Boi

April 29, 2010

Big Boi has been hyping this “Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty” album for almost two years. It should finally hit the public by the end of the summer. So far a third of the album has already leaked. Some back story:

Big Boi, as well as Andre, have a handful of different alias’s that come forth in different songs. For example you can hear Big boi break out into “Daddy Fat Sacks”, another one of his pen names, in “Fo Yo Sorrows”. Listen to “D.F. interlude” to hear all the nick names each of these two genius’s have.

It’s pretty upsetting that Outkast is pretty much broken up. The two together are a musical rarity that will be missed. I can remember my first outkast album, my brother gave me his old ATLiens cd. It was my first rap album (nostalgia). Damn, Outkast is amazing (with the exception of Idlewild), but that doesnt matter – everyone has off records. Bob Dylan, Daft Punk, Kanye… Even when they had split up to create separate projects (Speakerboxxx, Love Below), they were still hot as can be. Like I said earlier, the two are geniuses.

This album is going to burn through the main stream. The four tracks that have leaked so far are Absofuckinglutley amazing. Stanky, soulfoul, durty south. Big Boi.

(note, with the songs I changed the artist from Big Boi to Outkast. I couldn’t bring myself to concede that the group is over)

Royal Flush (release in 2008. features Andre and Raekwon)

Fo Yo Sorrows (released in 2009 ft. George Clinton and Too Short)

Shine Blockas (released in 2009 ft. Gucci Mane, great song to rage to)

Shutterbug (released a couple days ago)

Distant Relatives

April 28, 2010

Distant Relatives is a collaboration between Nas and Damian Marley. The album Distant Relatives is set to come out on May 18th. A few songs have leaked and they are really great. The album was produced by Stephen and Damian Marley who provide a solid mix of reggae and hip-hop. The songs themselves are heavily focused on equality, ancestry, and issues currently plaguing Africa (what happened to Beamers, Benzes and Bentleys?).

Refreshing to see two intelligent and talented artists come together to create some thoughtful music with cultural value and awareness in mind.

We are all fam, we are all distant relatives.

Here are two songs off the album:

Nas & Damian Marley – Africa Must Wake Up ft. K’naan

Nas & Damian Marley – As We Enter

For more information on the project, check out this interview from URB.

New MIA video is a ‘Ginger Genocide’

April 28, 2010

Check out the new MIA video for her electro-punk anthem “Born Free” above.  The video depicts a genocide of red-heads in what Carles terms ‘Ginger Genocide’ .

I couldn’t help but to think of the similarities this video has with a certain south park episode.

The song, btw, is pretty kickass and sounds like Iggy Pop.

Air France

April 28, 2010

Air France is a Swedish duo who make really understated and blissful tunes. They said in an interview that one of their main goals with their music is to keep their listeners guessing. To make this possible, their songs are masterfully crafted with intricate climaxes and resolutions. Perfect music for the rapidly approaching summer.

Check out some of their music below, and be sure to grab The Hood Internet combo of “No Way Down” by Air France and “Long Train Running” by The Doobie Brothers.

Sort of like a dream isn’t it? No, better.

Air France – Collapsing At Your Doorstep

Saint Etienne – Spring (Air France Remix)

FYI: Direct quote from Air France about “Spring”:

“This is the answer to our prayers. ‘Spring’ is the song we fucked to when we were eleven and took rohypnol raw”.

Totally.

DOM

April 26, 2010

Synth-Pop at its finest. Think MGMT, Passion Pit and the mind of a disco producer. You will hear these tracks pulsating from 36th and locust all summer. These guys are going to be big. Whether they be a spinoff of the hippest shit out there, people will certainly gobble these tracks up.
