Jamiroquai, where art thou?

March 31, 2010

Have you ever gone to sleep thinking, where did Jamiroquai – the moonwalking, fuzzy-hat wearing, acid-jazz playing, VMA-award winning, virtually insane Brit – go?

Us neither, but he did, and still does, make some extremely influential music. I don’t think there is anyone, with cable that is, that hasn’t seen the gravity defying video for “Virtual Insanity.” And none of us may know it, but Jamiroquai has sold over 35 million albums thus far, and they have an album in the works for 2010.

Jamiroquai, led by lead singer Jay Kay, is hitting the European circuit tour this summer, and keep your eyes open for a new release and a possible US tour to follow.

Until then, grab these:

Jamiroquai – Alright (Fred Falke and Alan Braxe remix)

Jamiroquai – Canned Heat (Calvin Harris remix)

Jamiroquai – Virtual Insanity

Barbra Streisand With A Side of Duck Sauce

March 31, 2010

Don’t you just love Barbra Streisand. Best-selling female recording artist of all time, actor extraodinaire, and the driving force behind this amazing new Duck Sauce* track.  While this intoxicating funk house techno groove makes one wonder as to why Barbra Streisand, the TF crew posits that the title refers to a Barbra Streisand sample cleverly used within the melody of the song.  What that song is we still don’t know. Anyway here’s a clip of A-Trak spinning it at Ultra this past weekend.  This track isn’t out anywhere as of yet, so enjoy the clip!

*Duck Sauce = Armand Van Helden and A-Trak making house music while eating chinese food.

I’m here to see a man about a Dog

March 29, 2010

As a Philadelphia native, I am proud of those famous for championing the nation’s first capital’s music scene (Chubby Checker, Boyz II Men, Daryl Hall (the one who got all the ladies), Teddy Pendergrass, Eve, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes (RIP), Santogold, Schoolly D, The Roots, and of course everyone’s favorite- The Bloodhound Gang).  Despite the wide variety in this lengthy list, one of my personal hometown heroe’s, Dr. Dog, is sadly often forgotten. Well, not for long.  The group that got its start after leaving their place of prototypical hipster employment-the local Utrecht Art Supply store- in 1999, has recently gained a national (and even International) following.

Dr. Dog’s newest album “Shame, Shame” is set for an April 6th release date. For the first time the band looked to an outside producer, Rob Schnapf (the man who helped create the sounds of Elliott Smith and Beck), and the album is sure to reflect their ever-evolving sound.

Here are a few pieces from the new album: “Shame, Shame”

Stranger

Shadow People

Unbearable Why

And a Few Oldies:

From

The Rabbit, the Bat & the Reindeer : Personal Favorite

Keep A Friend : “Even gluttons got to eat. Well I ain’t weak, but I hunger for your love. And enough it ain’t enough”

The Ark : “Man he called for war. So i built a gun and i joined the corps. Love she asked for more. But what i gave only made her poor”

Happy Birthday Brett!

March 29, 2010

TF’s head honcho, Brett (AKA Bobby Bukkake, DJ Tanner, ReBoXx, Brit), along with the TF crew, celebrated his birthday this weekend in Miami at Ultra 12.  First time in history that this legendary electronic music festival has sold out!  50,000 people dancing for two days straight.  Unbelievable artists, sick light shows, and ridiculously tasty corn dogs.  More reviews coming soon. Happy Birthday Brett!

Hip Hop Jueves #1

March 26, 2010

Ayooooooooooooo,

We’d like to welcome all of you to the inaugural installment of Hip Hop Jueves.

Every jueves (thursday for my gringos y gringas) TF will bring you fine people some of our favorite hip-hop jams coupled with a few classics.

For HHJ’s (teehee) first birthday we would like to open up with:

Consequence – G.O.O.D. Music ft. Common & Talib Kweli

“We smoke to it, we roll to it, we stroke to it.” Nuff said.

Jadakiss – We Gonna Make It

2001 banger.

STS – In For The Kill

STS’s voice is a bit annoying, but he merks the beat and goes IN on this La Roux sample.

Theophilus London – Higher (feat. Jesse Boykins III)

Theophilus has been doing the hip-hop world some good for a while now, props to P.Mac.

Drake – Over

Personal favorite of Daniel Duberstein.

Ja Rule – Put It On Me

Last but not least, a bar-mitzvah classic from all of our baby’s daddy. Murda.

Enjoy the weekend, and keep your eyes open for HHJ#2. If you have suggestions for next week’s post, comment away.
