When I think of the phrase “Music for your mind” I tend to conjure up thoughts involving flying neon rabbits, indian sitars, george harrisons beard circa 1971, and wookies. Maybe thats just me…
The new Penn club, M.U.S.I.C. For Your Mind, is kicking off the year with a grand ol meeting! They sent us this email, which made us feel special and musical!
Hey Everybody,
First, MUSIC For Your Mind like to say welcome back and we hope your first few days of school have been going well. Second, if you are getting this email, you are a part of the MUSIC For Your Mind list-serve. Just like we did last year with Girl Talk, we hope to give you another great show this year. If you are interested in our group, whether you are serious about joining and want to play an important role in the upcoming show, or if you just want to check it out and see what we’re about, come this Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7 pm. We will be having our first introductory meeting in Huntsman, Room F88. We will be going over what MUSIC For Your Mind is, what we do, and our plans for the upcoming semester. If you are interested in joining but cannot make this meeting, let us know as soon as possible.

On October 10th, there’s gonna be a Battle of The Bands here at Penn!

Any band that is interested in competing need only submit a music sample either in person at the Office of Student Life, 200 Houston Hall, or online atwww.sonicbids.com/PennBattle before 5:00 PM on September 25th.
… all the bands participating will be featured in 34th Street the week of the festival.

Kid Cudi has teamed up with MGMT and the dudes from Ratatat and created some hipster rap. via Pitchfork>>>>
Cleveland space-cadet rapper Kid Cudiknows his indie synthpop darlings. For “Pursuit of Happiness”, the third single from his forthcoming LP Man on the Moon: The End of Day, Cudi has lined up two Brooklyn duos as collaborators.Ratatat produce, giving it a hazy, plinkypsych-rap beat. MGMT‘s ghostly harmonies show up on the chorus, backing Cudi’s own gravelly croon. The song is a deeply stoned singsong nugget. Check the song out below, via Stereogum.

NSO is officially underway, and we want to start off the year right. Two of your highly esteemed TF writers will be spinning today at a bodacious day party (just follow the sounds of grindin’ electro), and we have many more events to come. The September concert calendar will be up later today, and we encourage all of you to go to as many shows as possible in this wonderful city of Philadelphia. I will be contributing from across the Atlantic this semester, but you’re other TF contributors will be bringing you up to the minute music updates on all things happening on and around campus. This is the real deal, folks.
