John Legend – Everybody Knows (RAC Remix)

August 5, 2009

John Legend AKA the pride and joy of the Penn music department just released a remix for his new single, “Everybody Knows.”  The superpower production team over at Remix Artist Collective have turned this soul-driven ballad into a soul-driven ballad with an electro feel.  Since Legend has been collaborating with electroheads lately, we wouldn’t expect anything less.

NYCNYCNYCNYCNYC

August 5, 2009

yeaheyahyeah

We’ve been doing a lot of NYC coverage this summer, mostly because so many of us Quakers migrate to the big apple for our big fancy financial internships and whatnot. So for those of you spending your time in this gorgeous summer weather in the city, these posts will be of some use. And if you’re elsewhere (like in Jersey, yuck), then be jealous.

First things first. I went to All Points West last weekend located on Liberty State Park. I did a write-up for ABC’s Amplified, which you can read here. Here’s a preview–

The first thing anyone will remember about Friday at All Points West, the music festival located in the backyard of New York and New Jersey, is the mud. The afternoon rain soaked the festival grounds, and by night when the skies had cleared, the festival-goers’ constant churning of the ground turned the usually grassy fields of Liberty State Park into a swamp. The second thing anyone will remember about Friday is that despite mother nature’s bad mood, no one really seemed to care. The music went on as planned, and once everyone decided to embrace the weather, the festival hit its stride.

Obviously, I took bomb pics and wrote about some highlights including Jay-Z’s epic set. So check that out.

Also, I saw the Arctic Monkeys tear shit up on Monday. Guess who was in attendance? ….Seriously, guess– I’m not telling. I wrote about the show for Amplified. Here’s a little insert:

The band debuted a few tracks off their upcoming album, Humbug, but stuck mostly to fan favorites off their first two records. “Brianstorm,” the lead track from 2007′s Favourite Worst Nightmare was a highlight of the night as the band rocketed through heavy riffs at a relentless pace.

Read the rest of the post, check out some pics, and find out the answer to the mystery of who was at the concert!

In other news, Central Park this weekend will turn into a massive rave/disco party as our favorite skull-obsessed German DJ, Boys Noize, spins his hard hitting electro at the free concert series in the park. (I’m also using this post to see if anyone wants to come? Hit me up!) So much happening around NYC.

It’s August folks- the last month before school starts up again, and TrippingFranklins seizes the Quaker nation by its boots.

Artist to Watch: roi

August 4, 2009

roi2-pola

     roi1-pola

roi (note the lack of capital letters) makes bedroom shoegaze rock that sounds somewhere between Wavves and Grizzly Bear, with some Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson taboot.  He likes noise and reverb.  He hates pop music.  His new EP “smears” contains 6 noise/pop/folk songs that will make you smile, especially if you read gorillavsbear.

Check out these 3 mp3s from his new EP, “smears”

roi – “abroad”

roi – “plums”

roi – “nineteen”
