Tripping Franklins guide to All Points West

July 30, 2009

TFAPWIt’s here.

All Points West music festival is this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Jersey City.  Lets go over the basics below.

GETTING THERE: Take the 4 or 5 to Wall St.  Then follow the crowds of Plaid People to the water/ferry area.  Continue to follow the plaid shirts + ray bans and GET ON A FERRY.  Then ask some bro with a mustache which way to go.  It’s that easy!

DOODYFACING: Be prepared for Cops to search everybody arab looking (thats you, david himmel) and druggy looking (that you, devandra banhart).  Pretend like your in 8th grade going to a Dave Matthews Band concert and try and avoid getting your goodies taken away.

WHAT BANDS TO SEE:

I’m not going friday so you pick what you want.

Saturday + Sunday…. follow the Red Circles.

Tripping Franklins on ABC

July 16, 2009

dead-weather-jack-whiteWe’re trying to keep things fresh around here. It’s summer at Penn. It’s stale. There’s no one here. The Franklin statue hasn’t been pissed on in a while and he’s getting antsy. We TF contributors are out and about covering musical happenings across the country. Today, I checked out Jack White’s new band The Dead Weathers as they opened an exclusive record store in NYC. They also played a show underground, which naturally, was awesome. Check out my coverage at ABC’s music website, Amplified.

Introducing: DJ Connect

July 15, 2009

Picture 3

Guess what? We just added our amigo RJ Ferguson to the Book A DJ! section. RJ goes by the stage name DJ Connect.. according to Hoodie Allen, he spins a variety of music ranging from Pop to Electro to Hip Hop.   He also has a nifty photo that I found on his facebook.  If you are at Penn and need a DJ, CALL HIM UP!

Summer Jams

July 8, 2009

summer-music-web[1]

Hey guys and girls and guy-girls. One of your TrippingFranklin bloggers (me) is spending the summer working for a music web show called Amplified. We chill with bands like Passion Pit, Phoenix, Moby and other super duper cool musicians. I also write for ABC’s music blog, which you can (and should) check out right here. I just made a summer-themed playlist for them which is up on the site right now. If you’ve ever said to yourself, “Man, if only I knew the perfect summer jam to throw on right now to really feel the full throttle of summer,” you’re in luck. It’s time to fully embrace life away from Penn.

Wednesday Playlist

UPDATE: Tragically, Imeem is not allowing me to embed the playlist. Well, you can click the link right above this to hear it in the meantime, or just wait til I figure it out.
